The Ordinary Seaman training program provides students with hands-on instruction in basic seamanship skills, including knot-tying, navigation, and vessel maintenance, equipping them with the knowledge and skills to safely function as an Ordinary Seaman onboard a vessel. Through a combination of classroom learning and practical exercises, participants gain the foundational knowledge and certifications needed to begin a career in the maritime industry, qualifying them for a United States Coast Guard merchant mariner document with a Standards for Training and Conducting Watches-Basic Safety Training (STCW-BST) certification upon completion.

Students enrolled in the LSCO – Maritime Program will have priority admission review for the Bachelor of Science Marine Transportation and the Texas A&M University Galveston Maritime Academy. Students will apply to TAMUG at the point he or she will enroll in TAMUG courses.
